About the Sacrament of Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Confession or Penance) is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. It offers the forgiveness of sins committed after Baptism, providing spiritual healing and reconciliation with God and the Church.
In this sacrament, the penitent (the person confessing) acknowledges their sins to a priest, who acts in the person of Christ. Through the priest's ministry, God grants forgiveness and peace, helping the faithful to turn away from sin and grow in virtue.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that "those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins" (CCC 1422).
